About Rotary

Service Above Self

Rotary is the largest service organisation for business and professional people with over 1.2 million members in more than 28,000 clubs operating in 168 countries and 35 geographical regions worldwide.

Founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago, Rotary, or to give it its full title. Rotary International, is a worldwide association of men and women who provide humanitarian service to the community at local, national and international levels, who encourage high ethical standards in all professions, and who work for goodwill and peace in the world.

The 'Rotary' name was derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among its members' offices.

In Great Britain and Ireland, there are around 58,000 Rotarians in 1,845 clubs helping those in need and working towards world understanding and peace.

Clubs meet on a regular basis allowing members to build firm friendships, and every Rotarian has a right to attend any club meeting anywhere in the world.

Rotary's motto is Service Above Self.
